In the first half of the Spring term in year one we learn about Space and Aliens. We get to play in our very own space ship and pretend to be astronauts searching for aliens!

We spend time using junk modelling materials to make our own aliens. We design our alien, choose our junk modelling materials and stick them then we get to paper mache. This is very messy!. Once our aliens are dried we can paint them and finally decorate them with glitter, googly eyes and pipe cleaners.

We then use our aliens in our maths lessons to learn about measuring using standard and non-standard units. We have to find the shortest and tallest aliens in the whole class!

In the 2nd half of the Spring term we have been finding out about toys from the past and the present.

In Year 1, we have been learning all about ‘Growing up!’ we have planted our own sunflowers and broad beans and have enjoyed watching them grow. We have spent lots of time in the school grounds and the quad areas finding plants and learning about different trees. We have written instructions about planting seeds and are keeping diaries about how our beans are changing as they grow.

Maths Workshop

On Wednesday 23rd of November we welcomed our parents in the hall and showed them how we learn to understand the value of 2 digit numbers and how  we add and subtract in school. The children were the experts and loved being able to teach the grown ups! A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who came along. We look forward to doing more workshops later in the year.
